Super rare / great investment piece! Number 21 of the first 30 limited ones given to famous people and directors etc at the launch of the new Fifty Fathoms!! This never comes for sale
As official partner of the Cannes International Boat Show, Blancpain organised a world-exclusive presentation of the 30 first “new-wave” Fifty Fathoms watches, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of this prestigious event. A group of handpicked guests were invited to take part in a cruise so that they could witness at sea the launch of the Fifty Fathoms by Blancpain CEO Marc A. Hayek. Mr. Hayek’s special guest for the occasion and his diving companion for the launch was world freediving champion Gianluca Genoni. The holder of 12 world championship titles, the Italian diver born in Galliate in 1968 has been dedicating his life to freediving for the past decade.
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was first introduced in 1953 as a professional dive watch for the French Navy. The name "fifty fathoms" refers to the maximum depth that the watch was rated to, which was 50 fathoms or 91.45 meters.
The watch was designed to be tough and reliable, with a large, easy-to-read dial and a unidirectional rotating bezel for measuring dive time. It also featured a double-sealed crown to ensure water resistance, and a helium release valve to prevent damage during decompression.
The Fifty Fathoms quickly gained a reputation as one of the best dive watches in the world, and it was adopted by military forces and professional divers around the globe. It was even worn by Jacques Cousteau during the filming of his famous documentary, "The Silent World."
Today, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms remains a popular and highly-regarded dive watch, and it is still produced in a variety of models with different complications and features. The watch has become an icon of both diving and watchmaking, and it continues to inspire new generations of watch enthusiasts and professional divers alike.
